from the Chicago Blackhawks,
The Chicago Blackhawks have agreed to terms with defenseman Michal Rozsival on a one-year contract.
Rozsival, 34, recorded 13 points (G, 12A), 34 penalty minutes and a +8 plus/minus rating in 54 regular-season games with the Phoenix Coyotes in 2011-12. The Vlasim, Czech Republic, native helped Phoenix reach the 2012 Western Conference Final for the first time in franchise history, posting two PIM, 31 hits and 28 blocked shots in 15 games.

Putting his numbers in context a little bit, Roszival was played essentially like a fringe 2nd-pairing/Solid 3rd-pair guy on the Coyotes last season, but was played more in the defensive zone than anybody on the team not named Klesla. He’s essentially a 2nd-unit PK guy who’s solid in his own end and does a good job of moving the puck in the right direction. The amount of points he put up from his role is gravy.
1 year and $2M for this guy is a steal.

Aaaaaaaaaand Mr. Holland didn’t sign him. Must be he feels good about our D going forward….. I’m feeling more sick to my stomach everyday.

Don’t worry, once the CBA is straightened out every other team is going to have to let go of their best defenseman so Mr Holland will have his pick…
Right?

That would be nice, but it’s not going to happen. You shouldn’t expect any of the teams best defenseman to be available once the cba is straightened out. Why would they? I wouldn’t get my hopes up garth (frown smiley).

Keyser, think Garth’s tongue was stuck in his cheek.
That seems to be the “party” line in defense of Holland not signing any dman yet this off-season. People seem to be holding out hope that with a cap roll-back and no salary roll-back that teams will be forced to shed some salary. Only problem is a lot of these people don’t seem to recognize that they aren’t going to move their solid talent, they’ll move underachievers, players not worth their contract, as you stated.
Bottom line is Holland whiffed and keeps whiffing and I’m really starting to wonder why. We have a contract offer out on Colaiacovo and evidently it’s been out there since July 3rd sooooo I’m not buying the line that’s he’s waiting til after the new CBA since he’s obvious got offers on the table. He’s just not selling them.
Semin, 1 year deal, we weren’t interested.
Rosie, 1 year deal, evidently we weren’t interested.

I believe we’re kvetching about not getting anyone while watching the talent pool dwindle and dwindle.
Rosie, 1 year deal, evidently we weren’t interested.
Yet they offered two years to Colaiacovo.
I personally would prefer to have Rozsival under contract rather than an offer out to Colaiacovo.
