Rob Parker, Please Don’t Talk Hockey

from George Malik of Snapshots,

On WDIV’s Sports Final Edition, correspondent and shift disturber Rob Parker issued what might become a common—and completely illogical, if not impossible—trade rumor among the Detroit media types who neither grasp the complexities of the salary cap nor want to wade their way through a relatively drama-free Red Wings off-season.

Parker suggested, in his “Clubhouse Confidential,” that the Red Wings will kick the tires on acquiring Buffalo Sabres goaltender Ryan Miller, who sports a conveniently media-forgotten $6.2 million salary on a contract which runs through the 2013-2014 season.

Rob Parker before going on tv:

“Hockey is the one with the round black thing and ice right?”

...trade rumor among the Detroit media types who neither grasp the complexities of the salary cap…

It happens every year. In fact, last spring a certain KK blogger who we all know and love absolutely refused to beleve that Hossa wouldn’t be retained – salary cap be damned. smile

At the risk of raising the ire of the “dreamers” out there, here’s a fairly conservative estimate of where the Wings might be at the mid-point this summer.

Pavel Datsyuk: 6,700,000
Henrik Zetterberg: 6,083,333
Johan Franzen: 3,954,545
Valtteri Filppula: 3,000,000
Jiri Hudler: 2,875,000
Daniel Cleary: 2,800,000
Tomas Holmstrom: 2,250,000
Kris Draper: 1,583,333
Todd Bertuzzi: 1,500,000
Darren Helm: 1,000,000
Justin Abdelkader: 850,000
Drew Miller: 800,000
Patrick Eaves: 800,000

Brian Rafalski: 6,000,000
Nicklas Lidstrom: 5,450,000
Brad Stuart: 3,750,000
Niklas Kronwall: 3,000,000
Andreas Lilja: 1,250,000
Jonathan Ericsson: 900,000
Jakub Kindl: 883,333

Chris Osgood: 1,416,666
Jimmy Howard: 716,666

SALARY CAP: $58,000,000
PAYROLL: $58,162,876
CAP SPACE: $562,876

That doesn’t even leave room for keeping Mattias Ritola (who’s out of options) or for signing the fourth-line grinder that Babs wants. So if Ryan Miller is going anywhere, it won’t be to Detroit.

All you need to know about Parker is he goe sonto ESPN regularly to argue with another idiot, Skip Bayless.

Here are two guys that can go on TV, argue opposing views, and make you the viewer be looking for a third options because they both sound like idiots who don’t know what they’re talking about.

Parker is all Pistons and Lions.  He knows nothing at all outside of that scope.

But if Lidström were to sign for minimum wage then… nah, probably not.

Hmm .. this reminds me of a Johnny Carson show long ago when both Albert Einstein and Jerry Lewis were on.  Remember that Jerry Lewis was (and still is considered a “genius” by the French media).  Albert commented on Mr Lewis’s antics, “such stupidity must be spontaneous”

Howard isn’t from Buffalo.  He’s from a town in New York State that is just as far away from Buffalo as Detroit is.  I realize you were being sarcastic though. =)

Anyone who knows how Darcy Regier operates understands how ridiculous these rumors are.  Next…

I mean, seriously, the Detroit sports media needs new blood.  People who actually know WTF they’re talking about.

Parker’s washed up.

For Nick, $5.45M would be minimum wage…his minimum. I doubt very much that he’ll go any lower than that (a $2M cut). And he may well not be willing to even go that low. He may want $100k more than Rafalski just on general principles alone. We’ll see.
