Ricci Out Several Weeks

Mike Ricci, who centered Phoenix's checking line last season, will not be on the ice for the team's opener Oct. 5 and is expected to miss several weeks after that as well. The 34-year-old had surgery in July to repair a disk in his upper back which was creating pressure on a nerve. Dr. Robert Watkins, one of the foremost spine specialists in the country, performed the surgery in Los Angeles. Ricci injured himself while training this summer at the Athletes Performance Institute in Tempe.
