Reports- Thoughts And Prayers For Mike Bossy

from Michael Stephens of The Hockey News,

Some terrible news regarding a hockey legend.

On Sunday evening, multiple reports surfaced to indicate that NHL Hall of Famer and former New York Islanders legend, Mike Bossy has opted to enter palliative care during his fight with lung cancer.

According to the reports, Bossy's condition has unfortunately worsened in recent months, and, rather than endure the physical rigors of further aggressive treatment, the 65-year-old has decided to return home and enjoy his remaining time surrounded by his family.

Bossy was one of the greats.  No way the Islanders win four consecutive Cups without him.  Having said that, he was a long time cigarette smoker.  Draw your own conclusions.  Mine?  Bad decisions often come with a price.

“The Boss,”

look up “sniper” in your funk and wagnall’s..

humble, unassuming, in the mold of the truly great: Howe, Orr, Sanders.

“Boss” has left us..God speed..

“If I had to make one pass in a game for all the money it would be on Mike Bossy’s stick no question.” - Wayne Gretzky

My sincere apologies to the board, along with the Bossy family. I failed to verify the numerous postings this am concerning his demise, all of which were found to be fraudulent.

To wit:

Can we make a deal? If you are saying Mike Bossy has passed away, please cite your source. Otherwise it is considered a rumour. And there are too many rumours floating around and no official confirmation so far. My prayers are still with Mike

I’ve met Mike a few times.  The last time was about 8-10 years ago?  My Daughter and I were attending the draft party in the summer at Nassau Coliseum and we parked on the Hofstra side of the building and walked towards the Marriott side where the entrance was, and it was raining hard and windy, no umbrella would survive the wind smile.  Mike spotted us and opened a side door and let us in so we did not get soaked.  Signed my jersey.  Talked us up for a few minutes about the draft and wished us well.  Such a nice man, you would never know he was the greatest of them all.  I read today that he averaged 57.3 goals per year.  Like Bobby Orr, he played 10 years and deserves to be as highly regarded as Bobby who also from I recall only played 10 years.  Imagine if both could have stayed healthy?  I don’t think any other player approached the 57.3 goals per year?

Simply put - he is our Tom Seaver and Joe DiMaggio all rolled into one.

Losing Clark Gillies, Jean Potvin and Randy Boyd this year hurts so bad.  Can’t stand the thought of losing Boss.  The pain Isles fans are/will suffer in our hearts over the loss of these men is immense.

Let’s all rally for Mike and pray for his family, and wish the best of health to all of us,  but also to the NHL stars on all teams that we grew up cheering for!

Louis Jean tweet,

Contrary to speculation, Mike Bossy’s family tells @TVASports he is resting peacefully at home as he continues his battle with cancer. He thanks everyone for their support and asks for all to respect his privacy.

Palliative care.  There’s no more rescue.  They’ll just try to make him as comfortable as possible until he passes.

We will keep Mike Bossy in our nightly Rosary.

Thanks for the amazing memories, Mike.
