Oilers have traded defenceman Marc-Andre Bergeron to the New York Islanders for Russian prospect defenceman Denis Grebeshkov.
The 23-year old Grebeshkov was the Islanders’ 18th overall pick in the 2002 entry draft. He currently plays for Lokomotiv of the Russian Super League.
added 12:15pm, from the NYI,
“This trade addresses our need for a quality offensive defenseman to improve our power play,” said Islanders general manager Garth Snow. “Marc-Andre is an excellent point man, a very good skater and a solid competitor. We like the fact that, at 26, he’s just entering his prime. With Bergeron, Bruno Gervais and Chris Campoli, we now have three young defensemen who can really move the puck.”
