Report- Hudler Released From Dynamo Contract

via a Dmitry Chesnokov tweet,

Just heard from a friend inside Dynamo Moscow that Hudler being released is true.

added 12:09am 04/18/10, Some of you may have a question regarding Hudler’s status with the Wings for this season so I emailed Bill Daly to be on the safe side and his response is he is not eligible to play.

added 8:06am 04/18/10, Last night I also emailed Bob McKenzie to discuss Hudler and Bob stated, just in case you need a refresher on Jiri, if Hudler does return next season, his contract is $2.875M per year for two years.  Nothing can be changed with that, since both parties must go with the arbitration decision from last year.

A conundrum for Kenny Holland…

But we’re not going to worry ‘bout that now.

One can only hope Happy remembers how hard he has to work on the ice wearing the winged wheel…not sure if he had the same work ethic for Dynamo.

Welcome Back, HAPPY! You can have J-won’t's locker

Welcome Back, HAPPY! You can have J-won’t’s locker…

With Nick taking a cut to say $5.5M and others (like Bert, Eaves, Miller and Homer) coming back for modest raises, Happy’s salary shouldn’t be an issue. But if he gets Williams’ spot and Malts retires, then the Wings will have to figure out what to do with Ritola (who is out of waivers).

I’m a big fan of Happy, but I’d sure hate to see the Wings lose another big-body prospect because they don’t have room for him. It should be an interesting summer for Tick Tock.

So with Hudler coming back we’ll only have, what, seven centres?  Looks like we’ll have to go UFA fishing for someone who can play up the middle.

I wonder how this is going to shake out, honestly.  Hudler was, I’m assuming, a top line player in the KHL and when he comes back you have to assume he’s 3rd line, tops, right?

Datsyuk-Franzen-Holmstrom
Zetterberg-Bertuzzi-Filppula

Those are still our top two lines, right?  Assuming (which I think is at least likely) that we re-sign Bert?

Just because he was release doesn’t mean he’ll come back. Whats the chances of him signing with another team. Maybe he’ll follow the guy who signed him. Now I doubt it, because i’m sure that would ruffle a few feathers in that league, but it wouldn’t surprise me either becasue they don’t want him going back to the NHL.

he supposedly hated russia and had been calling draper lately telling him he misses detroit. seems like he wants to come back. probably realized why everyone doesn’t take huge tax-free salaries in russia… because you still have to live in russia.

Hudler’s not an NHL center, really.  He absolutely won’t play that position in Detroit.

As far as where he’ll play, it’ll be the exact same position he was in when he left.  He’ll be on the outside of the top 6 looking in battling a different tweener top 6/bottom 6 forward for shots on a scoring line, this time Cleary instead of Sammy.

My guess is Hudler will be on a line with Helm and Cleary, which has some potential.

I did my best to explain the circumstances surrounding Dynamo’s decision—their sponsorships essentially disappeared and the club is merging with HK MVD, the KGB’s club.

George, just a little correction: HK MVD has nothing to do with KGB. Actually KGB does not exist anymore for almost 20 years - in 1991 assholes like Gorby and Yeltsin started their freak show and during 3 years the brand has changed 6 times. Now it’s known as FSB - Federal Security Services.

MVD is a Ministery of internal affairs which manages police (public, road traffic, criminal, etc.) and special police services (OMON - Russian SWAT, prison guards and so on).

I always got confused about that MVD versus KGB.  Sorry about that!

Thanks for the info, Hawk. It is amazing the non-hockey things I have learned hanging around here. The tough part about this tidbit is going to be working it into a conversation, so I can sound like a real expert.

That does definitely have potential.

And I guess that leaves the 4th line as Abdelkader centring two out of Eaves/Miller/Draper/Ritola?

what is that behind Hank?

Marty Barry
Bill Quackenbush
Red Kelly
Dutch Riebel
Alex Delvecchio
Marcel Dionne
PAVEL DATSYUK

whatever it is, that’s some damn fine company right there.

he can’t.  the Wings own him.  he has to play for the Wings if he’s going to play in the NHL.

This is good news, indeed.  I hope to see Happy back next year, a little humbled and ready to prove himself.

Money talks, and theres nothing stopping a KHL team from offering even more the Dynamo. Now, i think he’ll be back, but there’s always that chance and it would’t surprise me one bit.
