Report- Donald Fehr Agrees To Accept NHLPA Executive Director Position

via Liz Mullen of SportsBusiness Journal (goes to main page),

Former MLBPA Executive Director Don Fehr has agreed to accept the job of NHLPA executive director, according to multiple sources.

Attempts to confirm this with Fehr or with the NHLPA were not immediately successful.

Sources said other candidates have been informed they are no longer in the running for the top job. The search committee’s decision to recommend Fehr would still have to be confirmed by the entire board of player reps, sources said.

So who is Fehr most alike from the past directors? In what ways?

Some information on Fehr from ESPN when he announced his retirement from MLBPA last year.

Man, do I hate Don Fehr.  He absolutely contributed mightily to the semi-destruction of MLB, taking them from ‘America’s Pastime’ to a shaky #3.

Then again, I hate Gary Bettman quite a bit more and I know Don Fehr is a stone-cold killer who will drive Bettman beyond insane, so I am 100% behind this move!

Is the NHLPA really the worst, dumbest PA in all of pro sports?  If they get a decent guy in there to run it, they make crap up and run him off.  They get an incompetent idiot in there though that’s going to destroy everything though and they’ll let him destroy everything.

Now I am admittedly worried about a stoppage.  Might we now see all 4 major sports go to a work stoppage within a year?

People, there are a bunch of owners (re: small / non traditional markets) who absolutely hate the current aggrement. The same aggrement that Lil gary blew an entire season to get.The same aggrement that was supposed to “help” Nashville,Atlanta,Columbus….etc.

Well, guess what? The NHLPA could hire The Dali Lama to handle their bargining with the owners during the next contract, and there will still be blood shed, and most likely games lost. Maybe another whole season???

Many owners HATE the fact that there is floating floor to the salary cap and it has gone up from around 28 mil up to around 40 mil , and that is killing some owners.

Don’t blame the upcoming work stoppage (Lockout) which is all but a given on Donald Fehr.

What a relief.  The NHLPA has hired someone who can be a strong negotiator and ACTUALLY NEGOTIATE a CBA over the next two years instead of waiting to be locked out.  This is a positive sign, not a negative one.  The PA wants to play a 2012-2013 season.  It remains to be seen whether the NHL is willing to lock the doors again to force-feed concessions to the PA.
