Report- Vladimir Sobotka Headed To The KHL

The St. Louis Blues have lost Vladimir Sobotka to the KHL.

TSN Hockey Insider Pierre LeBrun of ESPN.com is reporting Sobotka has signed with Omsk of the KHL.

Sobotka had nine goals and 33 points in 61 games for the Blues last season. The 27-year-old has 35 goals and 123 points in 381 career NHL games, spent split between the Blues and Boston Bruins.

Sobotka was a restricted free agent.

Sobotka will earn 4 mil. dollars per year in Omsk, he can leave back for NHL after any given season (per isport.cz)

I thought St. Louis filed for arbitration?  Doesn’t that mean he’ll automatically have at least a 1 year NHL contract at the end of the hearing?

Not sure on that Hoot but the Blues are saying they will attend arb. hearing but not sure if Sobatka will be represented at it.

Also, reports are the Blues offered him a 3-5 year contract, with AAV north of $3M.

There is no transfer agreement between NHL and KHL, so they technically don’t have to honor each other’s contracts. Which they don’t most of the time.

They do have a hand shake deal that they have honored for the last few years, although there really hasnt been much of a test yet that I know of.  Kovi probably would have been a good test if NJ had decided to put up a fight over his contract.
