Report- Oscar Klefbom About To Sign A Seven-Year Extension With The Edmonton Oilers

The Edmonton Oilers and defenceman Oscar Klefbom have agreed to terms on a seven-year contract extension.

The deal is expected to be finalized in the next 24 to 48 hours.

The 22-year-old Klefbom was drafted 19th overall by the Oilers in the 2011 NHL Draft.

Last season, the Karlstad, Sweden native scored two goals and added 18 assists for 20 points in 60 games.

I’ll admit, I haven’t watch Klefbom play a bunch. It’s not like of all the games I can choose, I’m going to turn to an Edmonton matchup all the much.

7 years seems like a LONG contract. The numbers are good but the Oilers are going to pigeon hole themselves with all these long deals IF they don’t pan out.

Even if they DO pan out, the cap may force them to trade some of these contracts down the road. It doesn’t look like the cap is going to be rising much in the next couple of years.

I guess in Edmonton one has to do everything they can to hold onto talent and being proactive is the best way.
