Report- NHL Staff Will Take A Pay Cut

from Greg Wyshynski of Puck Daddy,

According to sources who attended the meeting, NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman informed NHL staff that they'll work four days a week and that their pay will be cut by 20 percent, beginning on Oct. 1.

There would be no layoffs initially for the NHL in the early stages of the lockout. In fact this pay cut was positioned as a way to potentially avoid them later on.

But Bettman reportedly wouldn't guarantee that staffing levels would be unaffected by a prolonged work stoppage.

Bettman should not draw a salary. As commissioner, if the league isn’t working, neither is he.

Looks like Bettman is applying the roll back to his own salary. Kudos!!!

Bettman and Fehr are both foregoing their salaries during the lockout. Will they just get paid in bulk when it is all over? Since they are both lawyers and can always just charge billable hours instead I don’t know.

I guess it is nice to see all of the people that support the league in all capacities taking one on the chin for the lockout and increased profits for the Rangers, Leafs, Flyers and Habs owners.
