Report- Dave Bolland Seeking Long-Term Deal

from Luke Fox of Sportsnet,

Dave Bolland has played just 15 games in a Toronto Maple Leafs uniform, yet the pending free agent is seeking a new seven or eight-year deal from the club, according to Sportsnet’s Nick Kypreos.

The total salary the 28-year-old Bolland is seeking over that term could exceed $40 million.

Bolland’s current contract, which expires on July 1, carries a $3.375 million cap hit.

I’m also seeking a 7-8 year contract in the range of $5-6M per year.

I wonder if either one of us gets what we’re looking for.

Used to count on Glen Sather making that pitch.  Not so much anymore.  Even he has gotten very judicial with his boss’ money.

Salary cap. Can’t pay Bobby Holik $8M per season in this day and age. That kind of mistake would devastate a team. Teams are a lot more careful, across the board.

Heh.  When the Wings won the Cup in ‘02, the payroll was $68 million.  The cap’s expected to go up to about that next season and nobody can spend.  Wow.
