How do you know it’s their fault?

I really doubt Cleary would say he had a 3 year deal with them, than they come out right away and deny it… much like they told bryzgalov they were not buying him out. they are unprofessional

I don’t know what “complications” there could be?

1.) Danny failed a physical?

2.) PHI changed the offer somehow, or Cleary’s camp feels they reneged on some part of it?  Honestly this seems like the kind of thing PHI would pull, sad to say.  So it’s on the table.

3.) The league stepped in and told PHI “No” because they’re already exceeding the roster and cap limits and have yet to sort of Pronger’s contract and if he’ll ever play again?  I dunno’.  Stranger things have happened.

#1 is sadly the most likely.

By the way everyone… the company that owns the face-palm-inducing Flyers is the same one that owns national broadcasting rights for the league, and regional rights for multiple teams!

Feel the synergy!!!!!

But Cleary DID apprently say that and then the next day Holmgren said that it was, in fact, a PTO.

@garth

Holmgren DID say they were not buying Bryzgalov out and 2 days later did exactly that. At this point, who has more credibility? Clearly Cleary.

I think Holmgren said what he had to say to Cleary to get a deal done, then realized he could not do what it takes to get his team compliant. So he back peddled and now we have what we see now.

Clearly Cleary.

Do you mean the guy who deluded himself into thinking there was any way in hell Detroit was going to re-sign him?

No, the guy who hoped they would find a way.

If you are following the comments, just added Aaron Ward tweet stating he heard Babcock, Holland and Cleary met today.

Clary refused to cover his PTO insurance. Flyers had no choice but to deny coverage. Bet he signs real deal with Panthers now and gets traded back to Detroit at deadline.

Ahhh, I see.

But Holmgren saying he’s not going to buy out Bryzgalov, clearly because he was tying to make a last ditch effort fo trade Brygalov thereby not having to pay Bryzgalov for the next fourteen years in order to not play for them, makes Holmgren evil.

Gotcha.

Babs wants Cleary. That’s all there is to it.

I’ve never read about Babcock being so hands-on with a free agent. EVERY single time I’ve read about a meeting between Holland and Cleary in the past several months, Babs is there. Every article talking about the Wings wanting Cleary back specifically cites Babcock’s desire to have him back. I think last playoff solidified Cleary’s value in Babcock’s mind. Even with his injury history and the risk of having him under contract in 3 years, Babcock thinks what he brings at the playoffs is worth it. While I don’t necessarily agree, especially at that term at that money, I also can’t really argue with uncle mike. That dude knows what he wants, deserves to get what he wants, and I will withhold judgment until I see the results. I know that during the regular season last year I was totally resigned to the fact that it was Cleary’s last year on the Wings as there was no way he would be signed and then during the Hawks series when he set the example and was by far one of our best players - injured no less, my mind started to shift the other way. Even if Cleary does nothing but stay healthy all year, if he brings it like that in the playoffs, it’s totally worth it. Especially when you compare him to Sammy or something. We definitely have the skill without him to make the playoffs and as long as he’s there to experience them, he is a player who goes 110% and is a big asset at that time of the year. Interesting development to say the least. I’ve been torn on Cleary all summer.

If You really think that Holmgren EVER in a million years thought that Bryzgalov was trade-able you are much more foolish than I thought when this conversation started.

Except there’s still no word that any of this is anything more than one-sided.  Just like everyone said about Brunner, that if he wanted to be a Red Wing he’d be a Red Wing, if the Red Wings wanted Cleary that much, they’d have made it work.

If You really think that Holmgren EVER in a million years thought that Bryzgalov was trade-able you are much more foolish than I thought when this conversation started.

And if you think there’s a GM in this league, or an owner in this league, who wouldn’t explore every single trade option available to them before giving away $20M+, then you have no concept of reality.
