Report- A Seven-Year Contract Extension For Cam Atkinson In Columbus

Columbus Blue Jackets forward Cam Atkinson has agreed to a seven-year contract worth $40.25 million, The Athletic reported Thursday.

It has an average annual value of $5.75 million and will run through the 2024-25 NHL season. The 28-year-old could have become an unrestricted free agent after this season, the final of a three-year contract worth $3.5 million annually, according to CapFriendly.com.

Wow. Talk about a win for Columbus. Kenny could learn something here. Instead of giving piles of cash for mediocre players, sign stars for pennies on the dollar.

If it was that easy, wouldn’t every team do it? 

The guy is 28 and they gave him 7 years.  He’s currently on pace for 33 points this season, which would be a career low.  All things considered, it seems like a fair deal but that contract length is risky.
