I’d love to know who keeps putting up $ to own these franchises that show zero signs of being profitable anytime soon…

Panthers the team don’t make money but the team is part of a larger entity that has the arena rights and does make money. Broward County owns the arena and has a deal with the Panthers entity, which the team is part of to completely run the arena. The team cannot move it has a long lease and the entity, Sunrise Sports & Entertainment would lose the money making rights to control the arena. The team may change owners but not locations. Sunrise Sports & Entertainment is a money making machine even if the Panthers games have no one in the arena.

There doesn’t really seem to be a shortage of people willing to buy these teams.  It just might be that owning a team isn’t as bad as they made it out to be during the lockout.  As Puckbubba said; the team is just the tentpole of the earning portfolio.  It, specifically, might not make money, but owning it allows you to make money in a lot of other areas and ways.
