Yesterday I posted an article found in the Bay City Times (I also pointed to it on KK) that claimed the Red Wing organization is hoping Steve Yzerman will retire. But it was clear in a near hour-long conversation with Devellano that the club is hoping the captain will call it a career – for his own good. A huge statement. An epic statement, but one that is paraphrased and not attributed to Devellano. The writer is providing us his impressions of his interview rather than a quote from Jimmy D directly stating that the organization would prefer the Captain step down. Further down, the writer injects his own opinion. It’s best for the franchise that he calls it quits. There was no byline. No contact information. Only a reference within the body of the story to his significant time spent covering the Wings. Today I received confirmation from Bay City Times editor John Hines that the writer is, in fact, Keith Gave.continued
