Remembering Katrina

from the Dallas Stars,
Thom Emerson is currently a sales representative for the Stars, but a year ago, he was a member of the 10-member office staff for the Mississippi Seawolves, an ECHL club in Biloxi. A Michigan native, Emerson was a 20-year veteran of the United States Navy and was relocated to the Mississippi coast in 2001. After retiring from the Navy, he accepted a job with the Seawolves, who were set to celebrate their 10-year anniversary during the 2005-06 season. Emerson, his wife, Jo, and their son, Trey, lived in a second-floor apartment with a view of the sprawling casinos and hotels that lined the Biloxi coastline. But as Katrina chugged her way toward the Gulf coast, the family paid close attention to the forecasted path of the hurricane.
