Regehr-to-Buffalo trade completed

Via the CBC’s Tim Wharnsby, the NHL officially announced the details of the trade which has sent Robyn Regehr and Ales Kotalik to Buffalo:

Buffalo gets Regehr, Kotalik and 2012 second-round pick from Calgary for [Chris] Butler and [Paul] Byron.

Update 11:40am: Calgary Flames release -

Calgary, AB – The Calgary Flames announced today the acquisition of defenseman Chris Butler and forward Paul Byron from the Buffalo Sabres in exchange for Flames defensemen Robyn Regehr, forward Ales Kotalik and Calgary’s 2nd round pick in 2012.

Butler, a native of St. Louis, Missouri, spent the last three seasons with the Buffalo Sabres accumulating five goals and 31 assists along with 66 penalty minutes in 155 games. He was originally drafted by Buffalo in the 4th round (96th overall) in the 2005 NHL Draft.

While a salary dump is good, I initially thought the Flames would get the pick. The Sabres getting the pick makes me mad as hell. But if you can’t dump salary to Florida or NYI then I guess you have to sweeten the pot. Two non-roster players…

Butler isn’t a non-roster player.  He’ll be in your lineup this fall.

Sorry Dave, you are correct. He may still be an RFA but he will be in the lineup, I think. Hope Regehr can do some good work with your young blue liners!
