Here are 10 reasons to start thinking about that parade route in June. Winning the Stanley Cup is excruciatingly difficult, but the Penguins are starting to emerge as the favorite….
10. The East isn’t very good
Before we even get to the Penguins, let’s analyze the rest of the league. The Rangers are running away with the conference and deserve credit for their terrific season. They’re really, really good.
But take a look at that lineup. Can the Rangers really score with the Penguins in a seven-game series? I don’t think so. It would be a wonderful series, but eventually, Crosby and Evgeni Malkin will produce their points. They always do.
The Penguins match up well against the Rags.
Philadelphia? Talented, yes. But the Penguins are way better in net, better on the blue and at least comparable at forward. Crosby will never let the Penguins lose to that team in a series, anyway. Honest. He loathes them that much.
Boston? The Bruins made their run, and had a wonderful stretch at the season’s midway point, but they can be had. They suddenly feel stale.
New Jersey? Scary for Pens because they struggle with the Devils, but cream rises to the top. The Pens are just a better team.

#9 is nonsense when you consider that most recent SC champs were among the best 5 on 5. Penalties get called less in the playoffs, end of story.

Yep coaching staff is the best Unfortunately No one is bright enough to tell MAF to leave puck alone you turn it over 80% of the time. And he has not gotten better at handling the puck since Ty Conklin left who helped him even attempt to play the puck

Here’s one reason against: the Devils’ game is on, and they may outpace the Pens. Plus, they have always matched up well against Pittsburgh.

Wish he wouldn’t have said that. At least it wasn’t a member of the Pens organization who did it. Bad hockey karma can bite you in the butt.

Every single one of his points just came back to “I think the Pens are better”. He may as well have said his 10 reasons are:
10. We are awesome
9. We are awesome
8. We are awesome
7. We are awesome
6. We are awesome
5. We are awesome
4. We are awesome
3. We are awesome
2. We are awesome
1. We really are freakin awesome
Give me a break….

On the other hand: I like the idea that Pittsburgh and Detroit’s paths are fated to cross: if they do well, so will Detroit.
But I’ve already picked NJ to come out of the east. I’m so conflicted.

Well, the one thing he is right about is that the East is weak.

The way the last 7 games have gone for the Wings, I wouldn’t count on them getting past the 2nd round.

A bunch of these reasons include a healthy and an up to game speed Crosby. IMO, that is a huge, HUGE assumption. Will he avoid contact in the playoffs? Will teams target him and how will he react? Will he even play? Are the Penguins good enough to reach the finals without him? Big, big questions that nobody knows the answer too right now. That is the question the author should be questioning. A healthy and up to speed Crosby is a bonus for them right now. Any assumptions otherwise are just plain foolish.
