Razor Thoughts

from Daryl Reaugh at the Dallas Stars website,

• The league needs to go back to home teams wearing white and road teams wearing their darker uniforms. As it is now fans see only two jerseys: white-based road team jerseys, and the same home uniform, 41 tilts in a row.

• Are those indication lines really going to get painted? Are they having trouble matching paint, or deciding on a color? (I’d go with neon sour apple)

• I used to think I had the best gig in hockey but after meeting Paul “BizNasty” Bissonnette on the weekend and getting his full story there’s no question he does. $700,000 a season to work out, take warmup, and Tweet. Good on him. Like most enforcers he has an infectious personality, big heart (he brings homeless people to games in Glendale and feeds them) and is a real good teammate. Among NHLers only Ovechkin has more Followers on Twitter.

Thank you for pointing out the home/away jersey issue!  Being a traditionalist I always loved knowing who was home just by seeing the white jerseys, home is the white jerseys every time, simple.  After the lockout in an effort to sell more jerseys they switch it up.  Do they not realize how stupid a ‘white out’ looks when the white jersey’d team is the away team (PHX) ?

Prior to 1970 the home team wore dark, so really the “traditionalist” argument shouldn’t enter into the equation, since historically it’s been both ways.

I prefer the look of the dark jersey over the white for the Red Wings, so I like that they wear dark at home.

I agree with Razor;‘s sentiments exactly regarding the home fans only getting to see their team’s color and white jerseys.  It should go back to white at home.  People have been saying exactly what he did for a while though.  Not sure why he is just jumping on the wagon…

Yeah, seeing the home team colors must really suck…if your a Preds fan…but I don’t mind seeing the Hawks red at home…lets not forget that 3rd jerseys are worn at home too. So its really not 41 of the home jerseys for most teams.

Lets say they do reverse it again. The hawks wear white at home and see other teams colors for 41 games. If you watch the away games on TV, you see the Hawks red and the other team in white for 41 games still…

Does it really matter? No, there are 82 regular season games, 41 home 41 away, assuming no 3rd jersey, if you are an avid fan and watch every game, you will see each jersey 41 times.

Ok, so this is for the fan who goes to the home games, but what fan would go to 41 homes games and not watch a road game on tv?

In our “barn” I want to see our colors, and I don’t think white is what most teams would consider their color to be. White isn’t very intimidating, its clean, sterile…who the hell wants that? To go along with that, white outs have always seemed dumb to me, how bout a black out or a red out, that seems much more intimidating. Unless your team color is pink or lavender, I dont think there is a less intimidating color than bright white…ohhh soo clean! did mommy use tide?

/end rant

Pretty good points, sorry I didnt know about the pre 1970, shouldve fact checked.

I like when Washington goes all red, with red jerseys, THAT looks good (and intimidating).

Let me throw in my support of the change to home/away jerseys and go over some other points in the full article:

Why aren’t powerplays more innovative?

Because penalty killers are much faster now and innovative power plays leave more room for mistakes which lead to short-handed goals.

How is it a player can punch a linesman in the face and it’s “an accident” and therefore excused, but if a player accidentally high sticks another player it’s at least a minor?

That’s a damn good question, Razor.

I love birthday cake and ice cream.

Don’t we all?

Why hasn’t anyone done a hard news story on ice girls?

Am I the only one that was slightly creeped out by this?

Why does tyhis buffoon still do a Column anywhere? It’s as Inane as Larry King’s Moronic former attempt at a column in USA Today

Forlorn in VA and Blades - if you want to really use a traditionalist argument, way back in the day, teams would only wear white when they played another team that wore their colour (ex. Detroit vs Montreal, Toronto vs NY Rangers). When the Wings and Leafs met, it was Red vs Blue.

And, as a Wings season ticket holder, I agree with Reaugh’s take on this. But, according to Gary Bettman on XM last year, the fan consensus is keep it as is, so it dosen’t look like it will change.

Not that this will add anything to the discussion, but I really could care less about what colour the teams wear for home and away. I like both Wings jerseys, so it doesn’t really matter to me. I guess if I had to lean one way or the other it would be keep it as is though, just because of the sheer hilarity of seeing “white-outs in Phoenix that don’t make sense smile.

For once, I agree with Reaugh.  Why can’t the NHL just do what the ECHL does—at a certain date halfway into the season, they flip-flop which are their Homes and Aways.  Then everyone gets to see most of them.  This way everyone wins.

Though I suppose that makes too much sense…

-  How is it a player can punch a linesman in the face and it's "an accident" and therefore excused, but if a player accidentally high sticks another player it's at least a minor

There’s, really no answer to this that saves face for the league.  Because the league still doesn’t have its priorities 100% right, that’s why.

Reaugh actually has several good points here.  Several more than normal, in fact.

I didn’t use the traditionalist argument, I said that historically the white and the dark have been used as both home and away colors.

No, you aren’t the only one creeped out by that.  Skeevy.  Definitely skeevy.

I’d be happy to never see the Red Wings wear their white jerseys.
