from Tim Wharnsby of CBC,
To appreciate 59-year-old head coach Craig Ramsay and the impressive job he has done running the Atlanta Thrashers this season, you need to know his story about the time he cheated death.
Ramsay, who grew up in the East Toronto community of Weston, was troubled by stomach problems since age 14. He popped Rolaids the way some people slurp coffee. Ramsay suffered from ulcers. He was just about to begin his NHL career with the Buffalo Sabres in 1971, when he underwent his first stomach surgery. “I didn’t even tell the Sabres,” Ramsay confessed.
He endured another operation a decade later, but the condition worsened in 1993 when he had to be rushed to the hospital on Friday, Aug. 13 because he was bleeding to death. He needed two surgeries over the next 10 days, which resulted in the removal of his stomach and his oesophagus being connected directly to his small intestine.

Thanks for linking to this. I live in Atlanta and actually follow hockey (albeit Detroit first), and yet hadn’t seen anything about this.
