Quick was great but his teammates were better as LA defeats NY 3-0

Jonathan Quick made a pair of absolutely remarkable, beautiful backhand paddle saves en route to a shutout as the Los Angeles Kings defeated the New York Rangers 3-0 on Monday night...

But I'd argue that the Kings played so very well in shutting down six Rangers power plays and stifling secondary scoring chances to the point that had Quick surrendered goals on both of the above-listed instances, all the Kings needed was this last-second break to really put the hammer down on the Rangers;

Anything can happen on Wednesday, of course, because the Stanley Cup being in the building tends to yield amazing efforts from both the team up 3-0 and the team down 3-0...

But the Kings have just out-skated, out-worked, out-detailed, out-hustled, out-ground, out-defended, out-scored, out-chanced and out-played the Rangers, and I'm having a hard time believing that this puppy goes back to LA on Friday.

Rick Nash played like the superstar he is, Mats Zuccarello has been stellar, Dan Girardi was superb, Martin St. Louis remains heart-and-soul brilliant, but the Rangers are getting great individual performances, and the Kings are getting one hell of a team effort.

The NHL more and more is looking like a league whose playoffs will be known for their out-of-your-seat action in the first two rounds (especially the first), and less-than-stellar action in the Final.

Last night’s game was…whooo, hard to keep the eyes open during stuff like that, so by the end of the second period I stopped trying to do so.

Anyways, the Cup was basically won last night. The Rangers are so fragile now it will be amazing if they actually win tomorrow and force a game 5.

Looking forward to draft day.
