Promoting The Winter Classic

NEW YORK (December 21, 2007) – The National Hockey League (NHL) is promoting the upcoming AMP Energy NHL Winter Classic outdoor game through print, TV and radio ads, as well as a viral video that is being distributed online.

The print ad, premiering Monday, Dec. 24 in Sports Illustrated, depicts a neighborhood outdoor pick-up game with the phrase “It’s a Great Day For Hockey,” written in large icy letters at the top. This ad also will run in the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review and Toronto Star the week of the game.

A new national TV spot promoting the upcoming game is currently running on NBC, CBC, VERSUS, TSN, HDNet, NHL Network, NHL.com and in NHL Club arenas. The spot begins with the definition “Cold: having little or no warmth,” positioned across the screen before cutting to a fast-paced version of “Auld Lang Syne” over game footage of the Buffalo Sabres and Pittsburgh Penguins. The spot ends with an image of a football field frosting over and becoming a hockey rink.

The NHL has also released a viral web video titled “Vapor”.  Watch the video…
