from Fluto Shinzawa of the Boston Globe,
Brad Stuart, a healthy scratch in all but two games this season, is on the Colorado books through 2017 at $3.6 million annually. Carl Soderberg, owner of one of the most head-scratching contracts in the league (five years, $23.75 million), had no goals and four assists through nine games while centering the third line.
Those two blemishes aren’t even the biggest failings of GM Joe Sakic and coach Patrick Roy.
Under their watch, goalie Semyon Varlamov and center Matt Duchene, two of the more talented players at their positions, are turning into no-confidence ghosts. Through six appearances, Varlamov was 2-3-1 with a 3.40 GAA and .890 save percentage. Duchene was 1-1—2, with 1 even-strength point, and an average 17:26 of ice time in nine games.
The combination of poor personnel decisions and subpar coaching is not doing Colorado’s talented players any favors.
