Printed Season Tickets In Montreal Will Cost More

07/21/2017 at 7:34am EDT

from Stu Cowan of the Montreal Gazette,

The Canadiens have informed fans by email that tickets for the 2017-18 season will be available in mobile format only. Season-ticket holders will receive the tickets electronically on their smartphones, which can then be scanned at the Bell Centre.

Those who want printed tickets can obtain them for an additional cost of $150, plus taxes, per seat. So a Canadiens fan with two season tickets will have to pay $344.92 just to get printed tickets.

Season-ticket holders also pay an administration fee of $100, plus taxes. So two sets of printed tickets, plus the administration fee, will cost $477.14, plus the cost of the seats.

In the letter to season-ticket holders, Canadiens management cites security, ease of use and environmental sustainability as reasons for the change. Some fans, however, are calling the new fees a cash grab....

However, one elderly longtime season-ticket holder said he doesn’t own a smartphone and has no choice but to pay the extra fee.

“They don’t think about this stuff,” said the season-ticket holder, who wished to remain anonymous for fear the Canadiens will revoke his seats. “And if you read the letter, you’ll see that they just jammed it at the bottom of the letter with this nice little surprise.

“I’d be willing to bet that 99 per cent of the season-ticket holders will opt for this extra fee,” he added. “Soon they’ll be charging to use the urinal and escalator, or breathe the air from your seats. ”
