from the Toronto Star,
Sure the beer may be cold, the hangovers pulsing and the aging legs on fire, but those post-game grins aren’t memories saved from something once-young: a passion for the great game burns in the desert.
And with the NHL playoffs airing in Dubai via satellite, that passion has gone global (sort of). Witness the just-completed CAE Dubai Mighty Camels tournament (won by the host club, but that’s beside the point). The DMCT is home to a mind-boggling 18-team, three-tier round robin, stacked with over 100 Canadians – Maritimers and Albertans, mostly – nearly all of them lost in their 30s, working all over the Middle and Far East. These guys take the DMCT seriously. Very seriously. Almost as seriously as the beverages.
