Philadelphia Flyers Advance To Eastern Conference Semi-Finals

The Flyers defeated the Pittsburgh Penguins 5-1 today, thus claiming this series 4-2.

Anyone surprised by the outcome?

added 3:24pm, Here is the eventual game winning goal by Scott Hartnell, a typical Philly goal.  Crash the net, find the puck and get it past the red line.

Yes and no. Yes because it should have ended sooner and no because the Flyers had the Penguins number this year.

I like it.

Now that Gary’s team has been ousted, I can go back to hating the Flyers.  Go Ottawa.

tough to see my Penguins lose but they were pretty much dominated this game.  The Flyers protected Bryzgalov perfectly.  That was an ass stomping.  I’m done watching hockey until the flyers are out.

not sure how they allow the crash the net goal on the pens MAF, but waive off a goal for the same kind on Bryz.  Probably because Buttman loves the pens.

Pens deserved to lose.  Can’t go down 3-0 and expect to come back.  One awful game and you are done and that’s what happened today.  Can’t see the Flyer’s making it past a solid D team in the later rounds, but they could easily walk through the East depending on the matchups.

Disappointing season.

Not much of a flyers fan, but they did a good thing for the league, the game annd humaninty in general by getting the whiners and divers out in the first round.  Good job, now go lose to the Blackhawks in the finals… again.

GRL, the Hartnell goal was ok because, 1) the puck was never covered up, it sat between Fleury’s legs, and 2) Hartnell never makes contact with him until it’s back in the net. On Neil’s, Bryz has the puck pinned against his body and Neil shoves him into the net. Two classic examples of a good play and an illegal one, respectively. Sorry you have to take out your frustrations by your team’s lackluster effort in the series on the refs.

Anyways, I will say this, Malkin has Ovechkin disease, when he gets frustrated, he tries to do everything himself and then yells at teammates for no apparent reason. Also, it was almost a nice moment afterwards when Bylsma said congrats to the Flyers organization but wouldn’t be whishing them luck. You stay classy there Pittsburgh. Also, I loved how your captain, who disappeared the last 2 games, basically said they lost the series because of bad bounces and not because he was a minus player in an elimination game. Real leaders step up and say they could’ve played better themselves and as a team. So glad to see this overrated team out of the playoffs.

Please.  There was diving the entire series and *gasp*, some of it was done by the team in orange and black!

Nex up…Vancouver’s season coming to an end. That will make the early exit of the Wings a smidgen better. Of course the Sharks are done. That’s not surprising. Can you imagine an Ottawa v. Trashville finals? Ratings will be the lowest ever. Poor Gary.

I don’t know how far a team that can let in 10 goals in one game can make it in the postseason. The most embarrassing thing for Pittsburgh is they got beat by a team that allowed 10 goals in one playoff game.

I dislike them both so while being somewhat neutral I have to agree that is an astute point for both sides to ponder.

I dont see how that matters since they scored 8 in back to back games.

One of the differences between, THEM , elite hockey players and US - beer leagues that post on blogs is,

THEY have the ability to minimize the negative, and not allow the last bad thing to affect the next play, and/or move on to the next game.

WE dwell on the negative, and tend to reinforce it as we open the fridge for the next Natural light.
