The Philadelphia Flyers have acquired defenseman Rasmus Ristolainen from the Buffalo Sabres in exchange for the club's first round pick (13th overall) in the 2021 NHL Draft, the Flyers' own second round pick in the 2023 NHL Draft and defenseman Robert Hagg, according to President of Hockey Operations & General Manager, Chuck Fletcher.

DRAFTED: 2013 - 1st Round (8th overall) by Buffalo Sabres
AGE: 26 (10-27-1994)
BORN: Turku, Finland
VITALS: 6'4", 218 pounds
SHOOTS: Right
* Ristolainen is entering the final year of a six-year contract worth 5.4M Average Annual Value (AAV).
* Last season, he posted 18 points (4g-14a) in 49 games with Buffalo... He missed seven games after a battle with COVID-19 in February.
* Ristolainen averaged 22:17 of ice time per-game, which led the Sabres... He has also led the Sabres in average TOI in each of the last five seasons.
* Has an average of nearly 24 minutes of TOI per-game throughout his career (23:53)
* He also led the Sabres in hits (193) which was over 100 more hits than the next closest Sabres teammate... His hits also ranked fourth among all NHL defensemen.
* Over parts of eight seasons in the NHL, all with Buffalo, Ristolainen has 245 points (46g-199a) in 542 regular season games.
* Internationally, he has represented Finland throughout his career... He helped lead the team to a gold medal at the 2014 World Junior Championships.
ROBERT HAGG
Hagg departs the Flyers after spending parts of five seasons in the NHL, all with the Flyers, and posted a total of 47 points (13g-34a) in 236 regular season games.

Ristolainen is an interesting case. Analytics wise he hasn’t been too hot. How much of that is Buffalo will now be the interesting case… especially since Philly has some good D alreayd. That is a steep price though….. glad we didn’t pay that.
