Pens trade Scuderi to Blackhawks for Daley

This happened in the middle of a game:

This trade sucks for the Penguins.  How does JR think keeping 1/3 salary over 2 seasons helps a team that is against the cap every season?  Any time you make a deal with bowman you have to know you are losing.

I like it. It gets Scuderi out of the way and brings in a capable defenseman with some offensive upside.

This is like of of those Bill Veeck baseball trades.  I’ll send you my $50,000 dog for your $50,000 cat.  Both players are well past prime and are not contributing much, nor do I expect they will do so for their new teams..

Win for the Blackhawks. They free cap space which is a lot more valuable then any of the assets in this deal.

I think this is pretty fair for both teams. The Hawks don’t want for offense from their blueline, so they retain a guy that can play at home for limited minutes, while opening up cap room. The Pens are having trouble generating consistent offense and a slight upgrade in skating and passing from the D corps—which Daley definitely provides—should be helpful.
