Pekka Rinne Out With A Sprained Knee

via the Nashville Predators,

During the third period of the Nashville Predators 5-1 victory on Tuesday night, goaltender Pekka Rinne sustained a sprained knee which will cause him to miss the next three games and All-Star Weekend, the club announced Thursday. Rinne’s status will be re-evaluated and updated after the NHL All-Star Break.

Re-evaluated might mean two things with this injury.

1. Either the Preds don’t want him playing in the ASG and know he will be fine within a week and a half or 2., it is more serious than first thought.

I pick #1.

Hopefully it’s #1. If he keeps playing weLl and Nashville continues to score more goals than the other teams he could legitimately hit 50 wins this season.

AND on the bright side that means the Wings get to make another back-up goalie look like a world beater. Win win… Or something like that.

I sure hope this doesn’t cause Nashville to go into a tailspin in his absence. It’s been a fantastic season for the team so far, so high above anybody’s expectations but the margins are thin and an extended losing streak will put them right back in pack. While they are almost a lock to make the playoffs at this point with a 15 point lead over #9 Calgary, stranger things have happened.

I need my fix of playoff hockey in Nashville. I’ve been setting aside some $$$ and for this. Tampa Bay is 3 hours further away and less interested visit.
