slight overpayment but he’s one of the more talented players on the team. Team is so young that can’t help any goalie… Khabi?

Given inflation, that they were having to provide incentive to stay away from big KHL dollars, and that this deal essentially ensures he won’t play for a winner the next couple seasons at least… I’d say that they didn’t overpay much at all.
This is a bit remniscient of a few years ago when Rocky Wirtz took over and an initial step in Chicago going from being a doormat to a contender was them letting everyone know it was going to be a new approach by overpaying to sign Campbell and Huet (laugh all you want but they were two of the most covetted free agents tha year). Years of sucking put them in a position they had to overpay their way out of. Winnipeg will have to do the same but if they let the few home grown gems they have get away then they won’t ever climb out.
