Kukla's Korner Hockey

In an article featured on USA Today's website, the Rochester Democrat & Chronicle's Kevin Oklobjiza reveals that Patrick Roy's son, Frederic, has graduated from the QMJHL, and the one-time scoring machine's reinvented himself as a super-pest as a member of the AHL's Rochester Americans:
"My family, we're passionate people," Roy said. "Everything we do, we take great pride in it. We don't do something for nothing. We want to succeed."
In Frederick's case, he's willing to do whatever the team needs. While scoring was his game in junior, he won't be a top-six forward with the Amerks. He's an agitator and grinder, a third- or fourth-line forward who loves to pursue the puck on the forecheck, block shots on the penalty kill and barrel into opponents.
Yes, he's only 5-10 and 168 pounds, but he definitely has his father's snarl. And on-ice temper.
"The blood boils a little quicker in that family," Amerks coach Chadd Cassidy said. "He doesn't have his father's glove, but he's every bit as feisty. There are very few players that can do what he does."
That combative, do-whatever-it-takes approach is why he's on the Amerks. He has an ability to alter momentum or attitude on the ice and in the dressing room.
"He brings a different dimension to our team," captain Matt Ellis said. "He's a really upbeat person and he brings a lot of the intangibles."
