Parity Arrives

"Just watching the games today," University of Wisconsin men's hockey coach Mike Eaves said Sunday, "what you're seeing right now in the Olympics is the parity in hockey across the world. "There was a time when the Europeans were nervous about playing the North Americans, the U.S. and Canada, because of their style. But now because of the inundation of Europeans in the NHL, they're going back home and saying, 'We know how to play them now and we understand their mentality.' " Eaves pointed to the lack of cohesiveness, or continuity, in putting together a U.S. team. "That's always tough," he said. "Each country usually has a system in play. Like the Swedes play a certain way. And the Fins play a certain way. And they're ahead of the curve in that fashion."
