P.K. Subban Traded To The New Jersey Devils

added 12:57pm, Nashville release is below.

Nashville, Tenn. (June 22, 2019) - Nashville Predators President of Hockey Operations/General Manger David Poile announced Saturday that the team has acquired defensemen Steven Santini and Jeremy Davies, a second-round pick in the 2019 NHL Draft (34th overall) and a second-round pick in the 2020 NHL Draft in exchange for defenseman P.K. Subban.

"We appreciate P.K.'s contribution to the Predators and the Nashville community over the past three seasons, which have seen our organization have unprecedented success," Poile said. "He was an integral part of our run to the 2017 Stanley Cup Final, the 2018 Presidents' Trophy and back-to-back Central Division titles. His work off the ice speaks for itself - he was an impactful member of our community, especially through the groundbreaking Blueline Buddies initiative.

"We had to make a business decision. With an aim at strengthening our forward corps this offseason, and the continued strength of our defensive group, we felt it was necessary to clear up salary cap space this way."

Wow. No retained salary. And what Nashville got in return is pretty underwhelming. Looks like NJ is loading up for a serious run in 2019-2020.

Another great player that I’ll never see again due to the delightful four-team blackout that is NHL Center Ice in upstate NY.

Wow alright I didn’t think this would actually happen. Why does a high profile dman like him get traded twice? Hmm. Seems like a stand up guy, too.

Looks like a pure salary dump by Nash.

Yeah, they needed relief and he’s a much more attractive trade piece than Turris…

I saw this video about a year or so ago and this trade seems to add more weight to what is said in the video.

There is some adult language in the video.

Nashville’s biggest interest was dumping salary. Because NJ was willing to take on the whole salary, Nashville really wasn’t expecting much return. This gives Nashville a lot of flexibility to chase Duchene and to re-sign Josi. I’ll be pretty shocked if both those aren’t done next week.
