Owner Of The Devils Wants Answers

from Rich Chere of the Star-Ledger,

After lunch at my favorite pizza and sub sandwich restaurant, Carnival Spot in Pompton Plains, I met Vanderbeek for coffee today at Greenberry’s in Morristown.

“A couple of things bother me,” Vanderbeek said of the Devils’ first-round loss to the Flyers. “Losing in the first round. Losing at home. Losing the final game without scoring a goal. And on top of that, losing in the first round for the third year in a row. I felt our fan base had embraced this team.

“I don’t believe in coincidences. You have to ask yourself the hard questions.”

He is not happy. Because of the early exit, the Devils will lose money this season.

Here’s a Start!!! Stop Playing the Neutral Zone Trap in it’s most stringent ways!!

Teams that play the Trap LOse a Big Edge come Playoff time when ALL teams Tighten up defensively & the Traps teams STILL don’t have the Offensive talent to win, Or enough Talent to win

Plus when you play that close to the Vest, A Bad Bounce, Fluky Goal, Bad Goal by the Goalie can sink you

But Uncle Lou won’t Learn !! He’ll hire Therrien or Hitchcock, He Hired Lemaire when he could have & should have hired Dave Tippett

The Devils problem was that they were an unbalanced team.  They paid 5.7 mil for two goalies, 35 mil for their forwards, and just under 14 mil for all their defensemen.

And it showed.  When your #2 scorer on the blue line has 18 points in 79 games, you are screwed.

So, any team with any kind of clue knew to pressure the struggling dmen and lock the Devils up, and then wait for mistakes.

If NJ is serious about being a playoff threat, they are going to get a strong offensive presence for their blue line.  Neidermayer or Gonchar would be good fits there.

He needs a backup that can start 10-12 games, too.

Didn’t Devils win their last few Cups playing the trap system? Seems like they did…sweeping Detroit in the final?

And since the lockout changed the game as we know it, they’ve had 3 1st round exits and 2 2nd round exits.
