Owen Power, the No. 1 pick of the 2021 NHL Draft, signed a three-year, entry-level contract with the Buffalo Sabres on Friday.
The 19-year-old defenseman will join the Sabres in Tampa, Florida, on Saturday, ahead of Buffalo's game at the Tampa Bay Lightning on Sunday, and he is expected to make his NHL debut at the Toronto Maple Leafs on Tuesday, general manager Kevyn Adams said.
Kent Johnson signed a three-year, entry-level contract with the Columbus Blue Jackets on Friday that begins this season. Financial terms were not disclosed.

I wasn’t all that impressed by Power in the Final Four semis against Denver. He even got rocked pretty hard by Wings’ prospect Shai Buium. Unfortunately, that was about all that Buium did that stood out. He even seemed a bit “whiney” to me when things didn’t go his way.
Tuomisto was okay, but he’s definitely looks like he’s just going to be a defensive defenseman (not that there’s anythig wrong with that). I thought he made some nice passes and played a decent game in front of his goalie most of the time.
The guy that blew me away was Carter Mazur. Even the play-by-play guys couldn’t stop talking about him. He reminded me of a cross between Kris Draper and Dylan Larkin in the way he went after both the puck and the puck carriers. The U of M players did not like playing against him – and that’s a very good thing.
