from Don Brennan of the Ottawa Sun,
The Ottawa Senators have just become a tougher team.
Former 67’s captain Zenon Konopka has agreed to a one-year, one-way contract that will pay him $700,000, the Sun has learned.
Konopka has led the NHL in penalty minutes - and been one of its most frequent fighters - in each of the last two seasons. He joins a Senators team that now has plenty of muscle, with Chris Neil, Matt Carkner and Zack Smith also able to rough things up.

Congrats to Zenon, good team guy, great at faceoffs, but limited hockey ability beyond the circle.

It’s hard to complain about this signing, but as a Sens fan I have to wonder what the point was. There is no shortage of bottom six guys on the Sens.
This signing may be bad news for Matt Carkner, as it could indicate that he will be the odd man out as the Sens elevate defensive prospects Jared Cowen and David Rundblad.
Also likely means the Sens foresee first round selection Mika Zibanejad spending another year in Sweden.
It could also make Chris Neil expendable.
