Open Post- Day 31 Of The Stanley Cup Playoffs

06/16/2021 at 8:30pm EDT

We know what is at stake, a win tonight by the Montreal Canadiens and they even their series 1-1 with the Vegas Golden Knights.

But it will be a difficult task for the Habs, the Golden Knights are loaded with talent through the lineup.

Discuss if you so desire.

Below, find some pregame reading.

via the NHL PR department,

Pre-game
* Canadiens forward Tyler Toffoli enters Game 2 on a seven-game point streak (4-5—9 in 7 GP), the NHL’s longest active stretch and tied with Avalanche forward Mikko Rantanen (7 GP from May 17 – June 4) and Golden Knights forward Max Pacioretty (7 GP from May 28 – June 10) for the longest by any player in the 2021 Stanley Cup Playoffs.

* Should Toffoli extend his point streak to eight games tonight, it would mark the ninth time in Canadiens history that a player recorded a postseason point streak of eight or more games with the franchise, and first since Vincent Damphousse’s eight-game run in 1992-93.

* The Golden Knights have won five consecutive playoff games for the fourth time in franchise history – only one other NHL team has had multiple five-game win streaks in the postseason within their first four NHL campaigns (EDM: twice; 6 GP and 5 GP in 1983). Vegas can also become the first team to have multiple playoff win streaks of six or more games within the franchise’s first four seasons of existence. The only teams to do it once are the Blues (8 GP in 1969), Oilers (6 GP in 1983) and Golden Knights (6 GP in 2020).

* The Golden Knights can become the first team to record at least one winning streak of six or more games in consecutive NHL postseasons since the Kings, who did so in three straight from 2012 to 2014. Los Angeles won the Stanley Cup twice over that three-year span.

* Golden Knights goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury has been in net for each of Vegas’ last five victories and holds a 9-4 mark in the 2021 Stanley Cup Playoffs, one victory shy of his fourth playoff year with 10 or more wins. Only eight goaltenders in NHL history have recorded 10 or more wins in four or more postseasons: Patrick Roy (9x), Ken Dryden (6x), Martin Brodeur (5x), Billy Smith (5x), Ed Belfour (4x), Grant Fuhr (4x), Dominik Hasek (4x) and Mike Vernon (4x).
