Great back and forth action through the first period. Canada putting themselves at a disadvantage with too many penalties from overaggressive play.

Great game so far.  Wide open hockey—something we haven’t seen out of any of the men’s teams all tournament.

Well thanks refs….that was set up for them.  USA WOMEN had dominated the whole game minus last 3 minutes…..and Refs weren’t happy just had to give them an unfair advantage….stinks!

Canucks won fair and square.  Weak call on the slash, I agree, if that’s what you’re complaining about.  Not sure the Americans would have scored anyway, since the Canadian goalie was a wall in OT.

Great game.  Ref should have called a penalty shot for Wickenheiser, even the ex-American player turned announcer said so.  I can’t fault the refs at all since calls went against both teams, which is all you can hope for in sudden death.

Canada and the refs should share the Gold. ..  both were a huge part of the win.

Really fair and square. The US was on a 4-3 PP when that slash was called 5 seconds in. The 3-3 was a direct result and led to the break away. the break away never happens if the slash (invisible slash) was not called. The womens game is different and the Canadian checked the American in the head and that is a PENALTY

Holy. Crap. I leave for an appointment with USA up 2-0 with a little more than 5 minutes to go and this is what I come back to?!

The slash call was on the American slashing the goalie’s pads when the puck was frozen under the goalie.  It was not an invisible slash.  Both Canadian defenders turned to the ref and complained.  It was a slight slash and a weak call, but not an invisible one.  In fact, it was highly visible since no one was even close to checking the American alone in the crease when she slashed as the whistle blew.

Maybe so, but he Americans definitely pulled into the play to not lose scenario after their 2nd goal. 15+ minutes of the 3rd was played at the wrong end of the ice. I hate seeing a team abandon what got them the lead and start to play not to lose.

Concur.  Reminds me of a certain Detroit team I’m a fan of.

I think both calls against the US were bogus.  The ‘slash’ was something that happens every game, and the call on the break away… when I watch the replay there was almost zero contact.  The refs definitely ruined this one.

Geez there’ s an awful lot of butthurt whining in this thread, surprise surprise. Here’s a big hint, though, that’ll hopefully help out in the future: they tend to whistle stick infractions in women’s international hockey.

Solid game between two teams that hate each other and are still almost an order of magnitude better than the rest. Regardless of who you favor, it was a measure of solid character to see that comeback; a solid 60 minutes is what the sport is all about.
