Kukla's Korner Hockey
Only Winners & Losers

Tonight, for the first time in the 88-year history of the NHL, there can only be winners and losers as the regular season begins. No ties, just winners in regulation, winners in overtime and winners via the shootout. Which means only losers in all three categories, as well. With all 30 clubs in action tonight, that means by the end of the evening there will be 15 losers, and therefore 15 teams in a state of serious disagreement with the NHL's new standards of rule enforcement. That's how hockey works. The losers always complain bitterly about the refereeing and the rules, about how the game was decided by those in stripes, not those with sticks.
