One-Year Deal For Mark Stone

OTTAWA - The Ottawa Senators announced today that the club has signed alternate captain Mark Stone to a one-year, $7.35 million contract.

Stone was tied for the Senators team lead in scoring last season after scoring 20 goals and earning a career-high 42 assists for 62 points in only 58 games. He has scored 20 or more goals in each of his four full NHL seasons since joining the Senators full-time in 2014-15.

His arbitration hearing was scheduled for today.  He was asking for $9M while the Senators offer was $5M.

Stone, Erik Karlsson and Matt Duchene will be UFAs next summer.

What a tailspin… one goal from the final to toxic cesspool, in just over a season - and it actually looks like it could get worse. Plus they might be giving the first overall to the Avs next spring.

Well, now Ottawa doesn’t have to necessarily ship Bobby Ryan off with Eriksson. He can be the throw-in on a Matt Duchene deal OR a Mark Stone.

Must be nice for the Sens to have the kind of flexibility.
