Once Again, No Stanley Cup For Canada

05/14/2015 at 8:31am EDT

from Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Sun,

For the 22nd straight spring, there will be no Stanley Cup in Canada.

The playoffs started with so much hope for the country with five Canadian teams heading to the dance, but ended with failure as the Montreal Canadiens became the last team to bow out with a 4-1 loss in Game 6 on Tuesday night in Tampa.

Two nights earlier, the Calgary Flames were sent packing by the Anaheim Ducks, while the Vancouver Canucks, Winnipeg Jets and Ottawa Senators saw their playoff dreams ended in Round 1.

Here’s a look where each Canadian team is at:

Montreal Canadiens

What happened: 110 points, lost in Round 2 to Tampa 4-2

The skinny: The Habs couldn’t score goals and couldn’t be saved by Carey Price. Somehow, some way, if GM Marc Bergevin wants this team to improve, he has to get a proven goal scorer. No, they don’t grow on trees, but there will be teams in a salary-cap crunch with players available. Price took the blame for the loss to the Bolts and that was noble of him, but he did his part and now it’s time for Bergevin to bring in some support around him.
