Ok, I’m feeling pretty good after watching the Bears first game, knowing that traditionally that means hockey is coming soon! Patrick Kane is almost healed, no one else has any problems, and then WHAM!!!! The word comes out that out of nowhere, Patrick Sharp has an emergency appendectomy late Monday night.
According to the Hawks and their team doctor (Dr. Michael Terry) Sharpie will miss all of training camp (at least 4 weeks) and will return during the season.. He was experiencing pain and checked himself in, only to find the problem at hand. Although a full recovery is expected, after the surgery to Patrick Kane, you have to wonder, are we lucky that this is all coming out before the season starts, or is this an early sign of a nightmare season to be?
Only time will tell.

4 weeks? What a wimp. Didn’t Lilja come back after an appendectomy in 2 days? ![]()

Actually, it was Ericsson. And it was during the playoffs, so the urgency to return was greater than at the beginning of a season.
Still, four weeks does seem like a long time to recover from an appendectomy. But because it was an emergency they might not have been able to do it laparoscopically. A full stomach incision would definitely take longer to heal.

It was Lilja i was thinking of: http://www.kuklaskorner.com/index.php/hockey/comments/quick_recovery/
I had forgotten about Ericsson.

I had forgotten about Ericsson.
And I had forgotten about Lilja. But both of the Wings situations apear to be different than Sharp’s. I have to believe that they had to do a full stomach incision to deal with his particular problem.
I’m sure Vince will get to the bottom of this in the next day or two. Right, Vince?

I think they’re alright considering an appendectomy is completely unrelated to hockey and just one of those things that happens to people from time to time. ‘Hawks’ll have a nice season. Even without a 100% Kaner, I still like Chi.
Not as much as Detroit though… Guess that’s the way she goes.
