The Oilers, however, are still in a dire situation. They likely need to garner at least 60 points in their last 45 games in order to make the playoffs in the Western Conference.
But they seem incapable of getting over the .500 mark, which they absolutely must do, and very soon, in order to finish in the top eight. There’s only six points separating sixth place from 13th in the West.
“There are more teams in it this year for the playoffs, which really brings focus to each and every game,” admitted Oilers defenceman Steve Staios.
Almost every game, in every city, seems like a one-goal game or an empty-netter to win by two goals.
Faith, hope and parity—for sure.
