CHICAGO (June 24, 2017) – A total of 217 players from 14 countries and 29 leagues were selected in the 2017 NHL Draft, which concluded Saturday at United Center.

RECORD CROWD ATTENDS 2017 NHL DRAFT

The two-day 2017 NHL Draft and Fan Fest in Chicago, including the League’s Centennial Fan Arena, attracted a record crowd exceeding 47,500 fans.


BLOODLINES CONTINUE

Marcus Davidsson (No. 37 overall, BUF): His brother, Jonathan, was selected 170th overall by the Columbus Blue Jackets in this year’s draft.

Gustav Lindstrom (No. 38 overall, DET): His uncle, Marcus Ragnarsson, was selected 99th overall by the San Jose Sharks in the 1992 NHL Draft and patrolled the blue line for 632 career NHL games.

Zachary Lauzon (No. 51 overall, PIT): His brother, Jeremy, was selected 52nd overall by the Boston Bruins in the 2015 NHL Draft and captained the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League in 2016-17.

Jonah Gadjovich (No. 55 overall, VAN): His uncle, Blair MacDonald, recorded 91-100—191 in 219 career NHL games with the Edmonton Oilers and Vancouver Canucks. His uncle, Tony MacDonald, is the director of amateur scouting for the Carolina Hurricanes.

Ian Mitchell (No. 57 overall, CHI): His uncle, Roy, was selected 188th overall by the Montreal Canadiens in the 1989 NHL Draft and appeared in three games with the Minnesota North Stars in 1992-93.

Jake Leschyshyn (No. 62 overall, VGK): His father, Curtis, was a member of the Colorado Avalanche’s Stanley Cup-winning team in 1996 and skated in 1,033 career NHL games with the Quebec Nordiques, Avalanche, Washington Capitals, Hartford Whalers, Carolina Hurricanes, Minnesota Wild and Ottawa Senators.

Reilly Walsh (No. 81 overall, NJD): His father, Mike, skated in 14 games with the New York Islanders from 1987-89.

Daniil Tarasov (No. 86 overall, CBJ): His father, Vadim, was also a goaltender and was selected 196th overall by the Montreal Canadiens in the 1999 NHL Draft.

Cale Fleury (No. 87 overall, MTL): His brother, Haydn, is a defenseman who was selected seventh overall by the Carolina Hurricanes in the 2014 NHL Draft and skated for the Charlotte Checkers of the American Hockey League in 2016-17.

Jack Rathbone (No. 95 overall, VAN): His father, Jason, was selected 121st overall by the New York Islanders in the 1988 NHL Draft.

Michael Anderson (No. 103 overall, LAK): His brother, Joseph, was selected 73rd overall by the New Jersey Devils in the 2016 NHL Draft and skated for the University of Minnesota-Duluth in 2016-17.

Matthew Strome (No. 106 overall, PHI): His oldest brother, Ryan, was selected fifth overall by the New York Islanders in the 2011 NHL Draft and has skated in 258 career NHL games across four seasons. His brother, Dylan, was drafted third overall by the Arizona Coyotes in 2015 and led the Erie Otters to an OHL championship in 2017.

Alexey Toropchenko (No. 113 overall, STL): His father, Leonid, was drafted 260th overall by the Pittsburgh Penguins in the 1993 NHL Draft and played 14 seasons of professional hockey in Russia, the AHL and the IHL.

Bryce Misley (No. 116 overall, MIN): His father, Johnny, served as Hockey Canada’s executive vice president of hockey operations from 2002-10.

Lucas Elvenes (No. 127 overall, VGK): His father, Stefan, was selected 71st overall by the Chicago Blackhawks in the 1988 NHL Draft and played 22 years of professional hockey in Sweden and Denmark.

Drake Rymsha (No. 138 overall, LAK): His father, Andrew, was selected 82nd overall by the St. Louis Blues in the 1987 NHL Draft and played 10 years of professional hockey with stops in the NHL, AHL, IHL and multiple European leagues.

Calle Sjalin (No. 145 overall, NYR): His brother, Pontus, was selected 160th overall by the Minnesota Wild in the 2014 NHL Draft and skated for Lulea of the Swedish Hockey League in 2016-17.

Kale Howarth (No. 148 overall, CBJ): His cousin, Scott Mellanby, skated in 1,431 career NHL games with the Philadelphia Flyers, Edmonton Oilers, Florida Panthers, St. Louis Blues and Atlanta Thrashers, and currently serves as assistant general manager of the Montreal Canadiens.

Olle Eriksson Ek (No. 153 overall, ANA): His brother, Joel, was a first-round pick (20th overall) of the Minnesota Wild in the 2015 NHL Draft and recorded 3-4—7 in 15 games with the club in 2016-17.

Brett Davis (No. 163 overall, DAL): His uncle, Kelly, was selected 101st overall by the New York Islanders in the 1978 NHL Draft and played five seasons of professional hockey in the AHL and CHL.

Brendan De Jong (No. 166 overall, CAR): His brother, Nolan, was selected 197th overall by the Minnesota Wild in the 2013 NHL Draft and served as captain of the University of Michigan in 2016-17.

D’Artagnan Joly (No. 171 overall, CGY): His brother, Michael, skated in the New York Rangers system with the Hartford Wolf Pack of the American Hockey League in 2016-17. His uncle, Yvan, was selected 100th overall by the Montreal Canadiens in the 1979 NHL Draft.

Trenton Bourque (No. 175 overall, STL): His uncle, Dan Maloney, recorded 192-259—451 in 737 career NHL games with the Chicago Blackhawks, Los Angeles Kings, Detroit Red Wings and Toronto Maple Leafs.

Skyler Brind’Amour (No. 177 overall, EDM): His father, Rod, recorded 452-732—1,184 in 1,484 career NHL games with the St. Louis Blues, Philadelphia Flyers and Carolina Hurricanes – where he captained the team to the franchise’s first Stanley Cup in 2006.

Cayden Primeau (No. 199 overall, MTL): His father, Keith, recorded 266-353—619 in 909 career NHL games with the Detroit Red Wings, Philadelphia Flyers, Hartford Whalers and Carolina Hurricanes. His uncle, Wayne, appeared in 774 career NHL games with the Buffalo Sabres, Calgary Flames, Pittsburgh Penguins, San Jose Sharks, Boston Bruins, Tampa Bay Lightning and Toronto Maple Leafs.


DAY 2 TRADES

* Arizona traded its 2nd-round pick in the 2017 NHL Draft (35th overall) to Philadelphia for Philadelphia’s 2nd-round pick in 2017 (44th overall), Philadelphia’s 3rd-round pick in 2017 (75th overall) and NY Islanders’ 4th-round pick in 2017 (previously acquired, 108th overall).

* Arizona traded Calgary’s 3rd-round pick in the 2017 NHL Draft (previously acquired, 78th overall) to Edmonton for St. Louis’ 3rd-round pick in 2017 (previously acquired, 82nd overall) and Vancouver’s 5th-round pick in 2017 (previously acquired, 126th overall).

* Columbus traded RW Keegan Kolesar to Vegas for Tampa Bay’s 2nd-round pick in the 2017 NHL Draft (previously acquired, 45th overall).

* Los Angeles traded its 6th-round pick in the 2017 NHL Draft (165th overall) to NY Islanders for NY Islanders’ 6th-round pick in 2018.

* New Jersey traded Nashville’s 6th-round pick in the 2017 NHL Draft (previously acquired, 185th overall) to San Jose for San Jose’s 7th-round pick in 2017 (205th overall) and Ottawa’s 7th-round pick in 2017 (previously acquired, 214th overall).

* NY Islanders traded D Travis Hamonic and its 4th-round pick in the 2019 or 2020 NHL Draft to Calgary for Calgary’s 1st-round pick in 2018, 2nd-round pick in 2018 and 2nd-round pick in 2019 or 2020.

* NY Rangers traded Florida’s 4th-round pick in the 2017 NHL Draft (previously acquired, 102nd overall) to San Jose for Nashville’s 4th-round pick in 2017 (previously acquired, 123rd overall) and San Jose’s 6th-round pick in 2017 (174th overall).

* Philadelphia traded its 7th-round pick in the 2017 NHL Draft (199th overall) to Montreal for Montreal’s 7th-round pick in 2018.

* Vancouver traded San Jose’s 4th-round pick in the 2017 NHL Draft (previously acquired, 112th overall) to Chicago for Carolina’s 5th-round pick in 2017 (previously acquired, 135th overall) and Chicago’s 6th-round pick in 2017 (181st overall).
