Now What San Jose?

from Nicholas J. Cotsonika of Yahoo,

Neither general manager Doug Wilson nor coach Todd McLellan should be sacrificed just for the sake of it – just to show the Sharks are doing something and won’t settle for the same old, same old; just to sell change. Firing McLellan would be the simplest and perhaps the most effective move, but the Sharks would need to upgrade. Whom would they hire to put this particular group over the top?

The core should not be broken up. The core cannot be broken up. Joe Thornton and Patrick Marleau just signed extensions through 2016-17 with no-movement clauses, so they aren’t going anywhere if they don’t want to.

Logan Couture, Joe Pavelski and Marc-Edouard Vlasic are all signed to long-term deals. Tomas Hertl has two years left on his entry-level deal. Does anyone think they aren’t players to build around?

The Sharks need to take a long, hard look at themselves. Maybe they’ll part with Dan Boyle, a pending unrestricted free agent, and buy out Martin Havlat, who has a year left on his contract and a no-movement clause. Maybe they need to find a new goalie, if they don’t trust Antti Niemi anymore.

What a load of Bull sh*t this article is, sure the 4 worst playoff collapse isn’t that bad right? its the salary cap era and teams are losing after having 3-0 leads all the time right? What a stinking load of bollocks, a ridiculous attempt to polish a stinking turd called the Sharks

That core is WHY they continue to fail.

I think McLellan is going to be the one to get the ax.  Who knows if it’s right, and who knows if this team is as actually as good as the media always thinks they are, but they just haven’t closed the deal year after year.

Watching the game last night I was amazed Pavelski had so many chances, probably 3 prime scoring opportunities, but nada.

If it was the Wings might have been a different story.

Would Trotz or McLelland want that mess?

Im sure Trotz could coach them back up to mediocrity in no time.

Well, he’s closer to the end of the rainbow than he used to be, and I don’t know if he’s interested in finding a pot of shit.

@Paul - It seems to be pattern with Pavelski when he plays the Kings. For some reason he seems consistently snake-bitten around the Kings net. Case in point - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N1Dj3j38gAY

Of course, I don’t mind it one bit. grin

How can he not be?

at this rate he is going to go down as one of the worst playoff coaches in NHL history.

I’m not even saying a majority of it is his fault, but, wow, something has to be done.

It would be interesting to go back and read the posts lauding the SJ front office for being so aggressive and proactive, unlike these stuck in the mud Wings of ours, back from the series the two teams played a few years back.
