from Jeff Miller of the OC Register,
So, on top of everything else – the questions about Randy Carlyle’s future, the debate about who should be traded first, the doubts about this team’s mental strength and will and drive simply to compete – we have the Ducks’ most appalling failure yet:
They’re ruining what probably will be the final season in the all-everything career of the greatest Duck ever.
They’re sending out Teemu Selanne not standing atop a pedestal but rather skidding upon his fanny.
A six-game losing streak, interrupted by one victory, and then followed by a seven-game losing streak – all before Dec. 1? If this were the sort of experience Selanne desired, he would have just slammed the penalty box door on his face.
Following his team’s most recent embarrassment – a numb 5-2 walk-over against Toronto – Selanne concluded, “There really is no answer. It seems to me that nothing works.” Other than that, his goodbye tour so far has been a real hoot.
After a practice last week, Selanne sat at his locker talking somberly about his situation. The emotion gathering behind his eyes was obvious. He looked like a man on the edge of tears.
