from the Rocky Mountain News,
General manager Francois Giguere is more likely looking to acquire prospects and draft picks instead of a veteran rental with the Avalanche sitting in 10th place in the Western Conference.
It’s quite a different scenario from when former general manager Pierre La-croix, now team president, made a habit of acquiring marquee players when the club was loading up for annual runs at the Stanley Cup.
Ray Bourque, Rob Blake, Theo Fleury, Dave Andreychuk and Darius Kasparaitis were among those brought to Colorado in late-season deals, as was Jose Theodore last year in exchange for David Aebischer.
