With only a couple of days prior to the Friday afternoon roster freeze prior to the Olympic break, it doesn’t look like the Bruins will be making any moves for the first of two trade deadlines this season.
Bruins general manager Peter Chiarelli told CSNNE.com that’s he had some trade discussions with other teams, but he doesn’t see anything coming together prior to the Feb. 7 deadline at 3 p.m.
“Nothing. I don’t really normally forecast when it comes to trades, but I don’t think there will be much action before the roster freeze,” said Chiarelli. “I’ve talked to some teams, but I don’t think anybody is in any hurry. You hear stuff about some guys going before the roster freeze, but you also know teams don’t want to take on the salary for an extra couple of weeks. But we don’t have anything going on.”
The freeze will be lifted on Feb. 23 following the conclusion of the Winter Games in Sochi, and then it will be a two-week frenzy leading up to the NHL trade deadline on March 5.
