from Michael Traikos of the National Post,
You’ve got to hand it to the hockey gods. They sure have a warped — if not wicked — sense of humour.
Or maybe they just have a soft spot for the Sabres.
How else to explain why the Vegas Golden Knights, who have gone from expansion team to all-star team in five short years, are suddenly on the outside looking in at a playoff spot?
They can’t seem to get healthy. They can’t seem to win any games. Heck, they can’t even get a trade to pass through NHL Central Registry without violating a player’s no-trade clause. Add it all up and it looks like Jack Eichel, who left Buffalo because he was tired of losing, could be on his way to extending his post-season drought to seven seasons.
Even if the Golden Knights manage to get into the playoffs — they are currently one point back of Dallas for the final wild -card spot in the West, having played four more games than the eighth-place Stars — it’s unclear whether they will be able to ice a full roster when they get there.
