No Penalty, He’s A Diver

from Allen Panzeri of Senators Extra,

However, MacLean was incensed that the Ducks’ Ryan Getzlaf wasn’t penalized when he tripped Senators defenceman Erik Karlsson in the closing minutes and that referee Dan ORourke explained he wasn’t making the call because Karlsson was a diver.

“The referee informed us that (Karlsson) was a diver,” MacLean said. “We were a little bit disappointed.

“Erik Karlsson leads the league in points by a defenceman, he’s an elite skater in the league, and, to this point in time, I can never remember him taking a dive.

“If it’s not a penalty, it’s not a penalty, but I don’t think you should be accusing someone of being a diver. That’s a pretty serious accusation, isn’t it?”

If Getzlaf didn’t get called for the tip because Karlsson’s a diver then have the god damn balls to call him for diving, don’t lip off to the coach about it.

If the ref feels it was a dive and not a trip, then he’s not doing his job if he doesn’t call the penalty.

These zebras think they are bigger than the game. This has set a new low for the awful standards we, as fans, already deal with. It shows a bias toward certain players.

So no matter what,  Getzlaf was not going to be penalized, only because the official thinks the player in question is a diver. What a joke.

Lets Go Red Wings!!!!!

If there’s any way to prove this beyond the “he said/he said” stuff, then I absolutely want Dan ORourke suspended from refereeing NHL games for a time.

To say this to a coach or a player is absolutely inappropriate.

I believe this could be something that the league and the NHLPA could actually agree on when it comes time to picking this fight with the referees’ association.
